LE YORA

Origin: Berlin, Germany
Genre / Subgenres: Melodic house, Afro house, Melodic techno

LE YORA is more than just a collective of DJs and producers. They're a well-rounded, creative ecosystem spanning music, fasion, visual design, and brand-building. They strongly believe in forming an artist-led world with complete creative control over everything they get their hands on. When the crew isn't hyperfocused on luxury streetwear or graphic art, they shine within their sound, which is vocal-driven, cinematic, and contains big, emotinal crescendos. Listening to their music is like watching a sunset on the beach and then vibing for the rest of the night.

Performing: Sunday
Stage Confirmation: Yuma*
For Fans of: Baril, Calcou, 1000 Beasts
Key Tracks: Ascension / Solaris / Lucid
Rating: ★★★½

*Yuma lineup now available via Coachella's social media accounts

Creepy Nuts

Origin: Sakai City, Osaka, Japan (R-Shitei) & Nagaoka City, Niigata, Japan (DJ Matsunaga)
Genre / Subgenres: Rap / Japanese hip-hop, Jazzy hip-hop, Jersey Club

First things first, "Creepy Nuts" is a hilarious name for a duo. They went on record saying that they chose the name as teenagers because it sounded "silly" and didn't think they'd get famous. Joke's on them because now they're HUGE in Japan. Members R-Shitei and DJ Matsunaga are widely celebrated in their respective communities. R-Shitei is a famed freestyle battle rapper, who has an unprecedented three-peat at the Ultimate MC Battle national championship, and Matsunaga was the DMC World Champion in 2019. Put them together and they make some of the most insane Japanese hip-hop you've ever heard. The boom-bap, freestyle-like delivery of R-Shitei's lyrics mashed up with DJ Matsunaga's tight turntable production is mesmerizing to say the least. My favorite thing about them is their recent discovery and incorporation of Jersey Club. There's really no other way to say this, but it's just nuts.

Performing: Friday
Stage Prediction: Gobi
For Fans of: Umeda Cypher, SKY-HI, chelmico
Rating: ★★★★½
Ratings are on a 5-star scale
