Los Retros

Origin: Oxnard, California, USA 🇺🇸
Genre / Subgenres: Pop / Indie pop, Bedroom pop, Chicano soul

The solo project of Mauri Tapia, Los Retros, is an LA-based musician who burst onto the scene through the Bandcamp/Soundcloud ecosystem. The Oxnard native leans heavily on nostalgia and analog sounds to emit a feeling of half-remembered memories or a frayed, worn-out photograph. His name wouldn't be "Los Retros" without vintage production, '70s-type chord progressions, understated vocals, or melancholic lyrics about longing, loss, and moments that have passed. Everything about Tapia's music screams, or rather whispers, vulnerability. It's so personal and inward, and he's brave enough to share his experience with us, but it's best when it's one-on-one.

Performing: Sunday
Stage Confirmation: Sonora*
For Fans of: Cuco, Boy Pablo, Inner Wave
Live Set: N/A (Unfortunately, I couldn't find any of Los Retros as a solo act with new music)
Rating: ★★★★½

*Sonora lineup now available via Coachella's social media accounts

flowerovlove

Origin: London, England, UK 🇬🇧
Genre / Subgenres: Pop / Bubblegum pop, Alternative pop, Indie pop

Soft, airy, hazy, and playful, flowerovlove makes the kind of music that feels like home. At just 20 years old, she's already got a plethora of bangers under her belt, and I'm telling you, all of them are good, if not great. Hell, the artwork for her singles alone is aesthetically fun in itself, as flowerovlove showcases her appreciation for fashion, which has gained crossover appeal. Her sound can only be described as light bedroom pop or breezy indie rock, but whatever you want to call it, it's nothing short of joyful and expressive. Though her tracks come off as sweet, many of them are still emotionally grounded. She's definitely an artist to watch; she might be the next big thing.

Performing: Sunday
Stage Prediction: Gobi
For Fans of: Rachel Chinouriri, Hope Tala, Arlo Parks
Rating: ★★★★½
Ratings are on a 5-star scale
