Lykke Li

Origin: Ystad, Sweden
Genre / Subgenres: Pop / Indie pop, Dream pop, Art pop

If you think you don't know Lykke Li's music, think again. Especially if you're a millennial who watched those supernatural TV shows where the high schoolers looked like they had a 401k and good health benefits. Her music has been featured in The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, and Teen Wolf just to name a few. Her biggest push came when Drake took one of her songs ("Little Bit") and remixed it for his breakout mixtape, So Far Gone. Since then, she's been a darling of the indie pop scene and is constantly praised for her ethereal aura, sparse production, haunting vocals, and introspective lyrics. This also has nothing to do with her or her music, but if you look up old photos of Lykke Li, she looks like a Swedish Lady Gaga (complimentary).

Performing: Friday
Stage Confirmation: Gobi
For Fans of: Bat For Lashes, Oh Land, Tove Lo
Rating: ★★★½

Freak Slug

Origin: Manchester, England
Genre / Subgenres: Rock / Indie rock, Lo-fi, Indie pop

The proud English Northerner is known for being playful and spilling raw emotion at the same time. Her quirky songwriting is layered carefully on top of dreamy bedroom pop, but with a tinge of distortion to make her stand out from the rest. She's currently amid evolving indie rock and lo-fi aesthetics, essentially pioneering "mid-fi." There's a lot of softness felt throughout her music, but also a lot of bite, which translates well on stage. Her live performances are energetic and chaotic, but in a good way. She oozes authenticity and is sincerely happy to be here.

Performing: Saturday
Stage Confirmation: Sonora*
For Fans of: Girl in Red, Snail Mail, Porridge Radio
Key Tracks: Radio / Spells / Underwater
Rating: ★★★½

*Sonora lineup now available via Coachella's social media accounts
Ratings are on a 5-star scale
