Samia

Origin: Los Angeles, California, USA
Genre / Subgenres: Pop / Indie pop, Indie rock

When taking a hard look at Samia, I thought she looked oddly familiar. After a quick search, it turns out that she’s the daughter of the iconic actor Kathy Najimy, and so the dots were connected. Since 2017, she’s had a string of successes, including a feature on Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlist and an acclaimed debut album, The Baby. This caught the attention of many other tenured artists, who tapped her to support them on their tours, including AJR, Sylvan Esso, Noah Kahan, Lucy Dacus, and Bleachers.

I’ll be honest, upon first listen, I thought my headphones were busted, but it turns out her music is purposefully quiet. It’s all very blatantly vulnerable, emotional, and sad, but she does have moments where she can turn it up with some poppier anthems and indie rock jams. That’s where I think she shines brightest.

Performing: Sunday
Stage Confirmation: Mojave
For Fans of: Dora Jar, Lucy Dacus, Indigo De Souza
Rating: ★★★

Solomun

Origin: Travnik, Bosnia & Herzegovina / Hamburg, Germany
Genre / Subgenres: Electronic / Deep house, Melodic house, Melodic techno

Solomun is one of the biggest names in electronic music and is widely regarded as one of the very, very few forces in shaping modern European house music. He’s also the mastermind behind the fusion of minimal techno and melodic house. He’s also the only DJ I’ve ever heard of that has a virtual residency in Grand Theft Auto Online. Listening to Solomun is nothing short of a euphoric experience. I felt like I was levitating, for real. Soulful grooves, deep basslines, and slow builds are meticulously blended to put you in a mesmerizing trance.

Performing: Saturday
Stage Confirmation: Sahara
For Fans of: HOSH, Stimming, Anyma
Rating: ★★★★
Ratings are on a 5-star scale
