Wednesday

Origin: Asheville, North Carolina, USA
Genre / Subgenres: Rock / Shoegaze, Alt-country, Noise rock

The North Carolina-based band did not achieve popularity overnight. They had to grind heavily to get to where they're at now, building their reputation through relentless touring, Bandcamp releases, and word of mouth before finally earning recognition in the indie music scene. Over time, Wednesday delved into other genres, attracting listeners across both emo and country fanbases. Their emotionally direct lyrics paired with intense and chaotic melodies create an especially cathartic experience during live performances.

Performing: Friday
Stage Prediction: Outdoor Theatre
For Fans of: MJ Lenderman, Hop Along, Big Thief
Rating: ★★★½

Glitterer

Origin: Washington, D.C., USA
Genre / Subgenres: Rock / Indie rock, Emo, Post-hardcore

Are you looking for a new emo band to obsess over in the 2020s? Look no further than Glitterer. What began as a solo project by bassist/lead singer Ned Russin (of Title Fight) evolved into a full band, emitting sounds of fuzzy guitars, driving drums, and expressive vocals. A lot of what I heard reminded me of some old Turnstile, which is always a plus in my book. Their music is also heavily introspective and off-kilter, but still holds that aggressiveness that you'd find in your everyday emo/post-hardcore tracks. What I'm trying to say is that their sound is complex and it really...sparkles. Kind of like...glitter.

Performing: Sunday
Stage Prediction: Sonora
For Fans of: Turnstile, Title Fight, Fiddlehead
Rating: ★★★½
Ratings are on a 5-star scale
