Foster the People

Origin: Los Angeles, California, USA
Genre / Subgenres: Pop / Indie pop, Synth pop, Dance pop

I hope you have your skinny jeans and 3D glasses with the lenses popped out, ready to go. In an age before TikTok virality, Foster the People (once a band, now a duo) had to rely on Tumblr to do the heavy lifting and blow up their music. The hipster movement did not disappoint. The upbeat, but lowkey bleak "Pumped Up Kicks" went #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 in 2011, joined the 1 billion YouTube views club in 2023, and is still on regular rotation on your local radio station to this day. Since then, the band has never been afraid to evolve its sound and experiment. They've taken a shot at being gritty (Supermodel) and with the electronic/psychedelic (Sacred Hearts Club), all while maintaining their hook-driven pop roots and deep lyrical content.

Performing: Friday
Stage Prediction: Coachella Stage
For Fans of: Passion Pit, MGMT, Two Door Cinema Club
Rating: ★★★★

SOSA

Origin: Liverpool, England
Genre / Subgenres: Electronic / Minimal tech house, House

With Liverpool-native DJs like CamelPhat and Yousef bearing the "house legend" torch for so long, it's time they pass it on. Enter SOSA. The young talent keeps his sound clean, minimal, and groovy, which has made him influential in the deep tech community. He's received praise from big names in the electronic community, including Michael Bibi, The Martinez Brothers, Chris Lake, Fisher, and PAWSA. His sets are known for having high energy and being jam-packed with hypnotic beats, but he always navigates his decks with precision to make each transition seamless. Otherwise, the dancefloor would be lost, and he wants you to be found.

Performing: Saturday
Stage Confirmation: Yuma*
For Fans of: The Martinez Brothers, Michael Bibi, Jamie Jones
Rating: ★★★★½

*Yuma lineup now available via Coachella's social media accounts
Ratings are on a 5-star scale
