AZZECCA

Origin: Chicago, Illinois, USA 🇺🇸
Genre / Subgenres: Electronic / House, Tech house, Melodic house

Hop on board a UFO and get sent to the stars with AZZECCA, whose cosmic club music will have you feeling weightless in the deep end of the Milky Way. Real name Allie DeCastris, she had a breakthrough in Chicago's techno and house underground via local gigs and self-run parties, where she became a local tastemaker and community builder. She was booking festivals in no time, including EDC, ARC, and Portola, before making it to the big leagues, aka Coachella. Her sound lies right in the middle of a black hole in space and heaven. It's dark with the sounds of acid grit, but it also has emotional, trance-like melodies that feel super psychedelic.

Performing: Sunday
Stage Prediction: Yuma*
For Fans of: Riordan, Chloé Caillet, Adam Ten
Rating: ★★★★

*Yuma lineup now available via Coachella's social media accounts

Laufey

Origin: Reykjavík, Iceland 🇮🇸
Genre / Subgenres: Pop / Traditional pop, Jazz pop, Vocal jazz

No one in Laufey's generation is making music quite like her. She may be the only Chinese-Icelandic traditional/jazz pop singer under the age of 30 to exist on the planet, actually, and she's the perfect gateway artist if you're a young listener who wants to dip their toe into that specific genre. Laufey grew up studying classical cello and piano, which is undoubtedly integrated into all of the music that she makes. The way she sings is so distinct and possibly unlike anything you've ever heard. It's so warm, inviting, and nostalgic, you'd think she was straight out of the 1950s, but she's just your typical Gen Z, social media-loving girl.

Whenever she goes viral on TikTok, she uses it to her advantage by reintroducing jazz, orchestral pop, and classic songwriting to a new generation. She hopes that they learn a new appreciation for an old-school art form. Her guest appearance during Gustavo Dudamel and the LA Philharmonic's set at last year's Coachella was well-received, so Laufey's addition to this year's lineup was a no-brainer. Get ready to swoon as she transforms an entire desert into an intimate, candle-lit jazz club with the backdrop of Hollywood romance.

Performing: Sunday
Stage Prediction: Outdoor Theatre
For Fans of: Norah Jones, Ella Fitzgerald, Chet Baker
Rating: ★★★★½
Ratings are on a 5-star scale
