Little Simz

Origin: London, England, UK 🇬🇧
Genre / Subgenres: Rap / UK rap, Conscious rap, Alternative hip-hop

I really don't think there's a British female conscious rapper that can touch Little Simz's caliber, and she's still somehow an underground artist. At least here in the States. Her intellectual rigor, sonic ambition, and controlled delivery are truly unmatched among her peers. Male or female, black or white, British or American, Simz has consistently been at the top of her game throughout her career. With co-signs from Kendrick Lamar and Gorillaz (the latter with whom she eventually collaborated), she's pretty much become untouchable. Much like Lamar, she's a great storyteller and can transform her songs into cinematic events through dense, introspective lyrics and production that ranges from jazzy to orchestral. What Simz offers is rich substance, whether it's cold, vulnerable, or theatrical. It's all delivered at an elite level.

Performing: Sunday
Stage Prediction:
For Fans of: Noname, Rapsody, Sampa the Great
Rating: ★★★★½

RØZ

Origin: Mexico City, Mexico 🇲🇽
Genre / Subgenres: Electronic / House, Latin electronic, Moombahton

There seems to be an uptick of Latin electronic music these days, and RØZ are key contributors to this new cultural movement, pushing themselves to the front of global EDM conversations. The blended production of house and Latin pop/reggaeton seems like no easy task, but the duo makes it seamless, as if these genres were meant to be paired. It begs the question, "How can you not be romantic about EDM?" At its core, it's house music, but when stacked with Latin rhythms and smooth, Spanish vocals, it transforms into something much bigger than you can imagine. It's nearly a physical experience.

Performing: Sunday

For Fans of: NSQK, Tom & Collins, DannyLux
