Lambrini Girls

Origin: Brighton, England, UK 🇬🇧
Genre / Subgenres: Rock / Punk rock, Noise rock, Riot grrrl

Lambrini Girls are one of the most exciting and confrontational duos in the modern punk era and gained early traction via DIY gigs and a public stamp of approval from Iggy Pop (more on him later). The combination of their loud abrasiveness and lyrics about sexism, queerness, and music industry abuse is what caught the attention of the media and created a snowball effect of their popularity.

They've become a new, integral voice in punk spaces and have shifted from underground heroes to international touring acts essentially overnight. Their music is pervasively aggressive and purposefully uncomfortable. Heavy on the distortion and thick on the basslines, it's as if they're using a megaphone rather than a microphone when shouting out the words to their songs, but if you can't take a joke or stand for equality, then get the hell out!

Joyce Manor

Origin: Torrance, California, USA 🇺🇸
Genre / Subgenres: Rock / Emo revival, Punk rock, Pop punk

Now this is an emo revival band I can get behind! There is a sense of nostalgia in their sound, even within their new stuff released just a few weeks ago (an album that's only 19 minutes long is crazy). All it took for the SoCal-based band was one self-titled debut album, and they garnered a cult following almost immediately. What caught listeners' attention were short, to-the-point songs and emotionally raw lyrics that are delivered to you at face value and don't need dissection. They also became a "gateway band" between hardcore punk and emo as both genres had a sudden resurgence in the early 2010s. What makes them easy to digest is their two-minute song structures, buzzy guitar riffs, cracked, unfiltered vocals, and lyrics about relationships, self-loathing, and anxiety. They're just like us!

Performing: Friday
Stage Prediction: Gobi
For Fans of: Modern Baseball, Basement, PUP
Rating: ★★★★
